“Dalton Gata: The Way We’ll Be” marks the first solo museum presentation for Puerto Ricobased artist Dalton Gata (b. 1977, Santiago de Cuba). This publication explores the artist’s work over the last decade, in which the artist has experimented across mediums to create arrestingly surreal, psychological, mythical, and expressive images. Gata’s dynamic, symbolically rich environments inventively repurpose queer and popular culture. The artist often uses portraiture to reimagine conventions of identity, gender, and beauty and creates symbolic still lifes and landscapes rich with narrative. Gata’s works create incredible stories based on his own experience of immigration as well as the diasporic conditions of Cuba in the Caribbean.
